Harlem, NY — November 28th, 2019 — Friends of Public School Harlem held a thanksgiving food giveaway to help feed members of the local community. The event was conducted in conjunction with the Sojourner Truth Democratic Club and was open to all those in need of a warm meal and a sense of community during the annual celebration of gratitude and giving.
The offered meal was made with high-quality ingredients and featured a wide array of seasonal staples. This included mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce, stuffing, green beans, mixed vegetables, rolls, cornbread, and, of course, turkey! Beverages and desserts were also offered to complete the spread.
The event was attended and supported by numerous high-profile individuals seeking to give back to the community. This included FPSH President Jerry Migdol, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, Borough President Gale Brewer, Assemblyman Robert Rodriguez, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, “Exonerated Five” members Korey Wise and Kevin Richardson, District Leader Keith Lilly, and Assemblyman Al Taylor.
More than 100 community members attended the gathering in the warm and welcoming event space. During the meal, attendees and community leaders made public remarks on gratitude and the importance of togetherness.
“It warms my heart to see the Harlem community coming together to support one another during the holiday,” said FPSH President Migdol during his remarks. “I hope everyone is enjoying the food and hospitality. We’re blessed to be able to provide in this way and I hope we can all find opportunities to pass along this spirit of kindness to those we meet.”
