School Supply Giveaway Supports FPSH's Ongoing Education Mission

Harlem, NY — October 23rd, 2020 — Students turned out in large numbers to attend a recent giveaway of school supplies administrated by Friends of Public School Harlem. The event took place at Harlem’s Clinton Houses and was covered by Channel 7 News due to the positive effect it was having on the community. Kits of school supplies distributed at the event include:

  • Backpack
  • Notebooks
  • Loose-leaf paper
  • Organizational folders
  • Pens
  • Pencils
  • Colored pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Dictionary
  • Calculator
  • Ruler
  • Protractor
  • Erasers
  • Glue
  • Scissors

FPSH was able to give away more than 100 kits of supplies to students in need at the event. This brings the organization’s impact to more than 5,000 students positively affected in 2020. It also adds to the non-profit’s ongoing philanthropic legacy, which now totals more than $900,000 in donated materials and 30,000 community members impacted.

The event was attended by District Leader Keith Lilly and “Exonerated Five” member Korey Wise, among others. Administrative support for the giveaway was donated by The Migdol Organization, which volunteers staff time to ensure that 100% of funds donated to FPSH go towards benefiting those in need.

“This work is very important,” said District Leader Lilly when asked about the need for school supplies in the current unique educational climate. “With the switch to in-house learning and families facing increased hardships, it’s so essential that we can give back and supplement families who are struggling and who can’t go out and get school supplies for their kids. Friends of Public School Harlem has done a tremendous job in serving this need.”

In addition to its ongoing mission surrounding education, FPSH has also undertaken actions this year to help alleviate the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. This work has included the donation of high-quality masks and sterile gloves. It has also included grocery giveaways, undertaken to help individuals who have been hit hard by the recent economic decline.
